Step By Step guide to Stone Setting Part 2 – bezel

Step one make sure you have all the ingredients to for a bezel setting you will need:

  1. your ring shank

  2. A cabochon stone

  3. fine silver 0.5mm thick/ bezel strip (strip has to be quite high so get something thats between 7-10mm)

  4. a piece of silver  for the base of the cabochon so a 1mm 20×20 mm should be enough!

  5. Burnisher

  6. smoother tool

  7. pushover tool

Step 1 – Depending on the size of your cabochon measure it and with your fine silver do similarly what you did with your shank bringing the two ends together with pliers and soldering them together making sure there are no gaps the two ends MUST be flush. (again use a large flat file!) once that’s done solder it onto the flat silver sheet.

Step 2 – using a ring clamp or a wax stick secure the stone. Place stone inside making sure it is not too tight or loose also file down the metal the setting shouldn’t cover the stone.

Step 3- Using the pushover tool use the clock method 12-3-6-9 and push over the sides. push over the rest. With a smoothing tool smooth the sides by and anchoring it along the setting. Lastly with a burnisher this will further smooth out the setting and also give a good finish!

Step 4 – Polish it using tripoli and and rouge in the polishing motor and to further clean it it the aid of a polishing cloth can hep and if you’ve scratched the setting grab a 1000 grade sand paper as its not as course will finish it off.

Now you have a nice contemporary ring to wear everyday or maybe at casual dinners.

See you next time 😉
